The growing methods adopted require few interventions during the various stages of pruning, are more convenient for the plant and can boost production within the first years from the time of planting.

The main purposes for which to choose a growing method over another are the following:

• to balance the relationship between vegetative and reproductive apparatus to optimize production in terms of quality and quantity;
• to adapt the plant to lighting conditions;
• to provide an adequate ventilation of the foliage;

• to facilitate growing operations by removing the causes that can hinder them;

  to reduce labour costs. The growing is designed to facilitate operations which are usually carried out by hand or with special machines;
• to respect aesthetics.
